White Villages Route: A Trip from Jerez

Zahara de la Sierra - Apartamentos Turísticos Antonio Parra

Beyond the coast and the countryside, the heart of the province of Cádiz beats in the Sierra, in its famous White Villages. A maze of whitewashed streets, clinging to the mountains and dotted with flowers, transports you to another era.

From Jerez, you have the gateway to this wonderful route. It's the perfect day trip to combine with your stay in the city, and upon your return, the comfort and relaxation of the city will await  your apartment at Familia Antonio Parra.

A One-Day Route: 3 Must-See Towns

The White Villages Route is extensive, but we have designed a perfect circular itinerary for one day, visiting three of the most representatives.

Stop 1: Arcos de la Frontera (The Entrance Gate)

Arcos de la Frontera - Apartamentos Turísticos Antonio Parra

Your adventure begins in Arcos, one of Spain's most spectacular villages, perched on a rock. It's the gateway to the Sierra de Cádiz.

What you can't miss: Leave your car at the bottom and walk up the steep, narrow streets to Plaza del Cabildo. Look out from the Balcón de la Peña Nueva (be careful, vertigo!) and enjoy a panoramic view that will leave you breathless.

Stop 2: Grazalema (The Heart of the Natural Park)

We continue inland to reach Grazalema, nestled in the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. Interestingly, it's one of the rainiest areas in Spain, which explains its incredible greenery..

What to do: Stroll through the charming Plaza de España and look for the craft shops selling Grazalema's famous wool blankets. It's the ideal place to have lunch at one of its traditional food taverns..

Stop 3: Zahara de la Sierra (The Perfect Postcard)

Zahara de la Sierra - Apartamentos Turísticos Antonio Parra

To end the day, the jewel in the crown. The image of Zahara de la Sierra, with its Nasrid castle at the top and the incredibly turquoise reservoir at its feet, is one of Andalusia's most famous postcards.

The perfect plan: Climb up to the castle's Keep. The effort of the climb is rewarded with views that are simply unforgettable. It's the icing on the cake for your hike.

        Practical Tips for your Route

-Car essential: This route is designed to be done by car and enjoy the scenery between the villages.

-Comfortable shoes: Cobblestone streets and hills await you. Leave your heels at home!

-Plan your meal: Especially on weekends, it's a good idea to make a reservation at a restaurant in Grazalema or Zahara so you don't run out of space.

Returning to Jerez at dusk after a day exploring the mountains is a wonderful feeling. The comfort of the city and the rest you need to continue enjoying your trip await you..
